Statue of Liberty
The Statue of Liberty is probably the most popular statue in the world. Its official name is Liberty Enlightening the World but had been popularly and commonly known as the Statue of Liberty. This was a gift by the French people to the US in 1886. This very popular landmark of the US stands on Liberty Island in New York.
Colossus of Barletta
The Colossus of Barletta is a large bronze statue presently located in Barletta, Italy. Three Eastern Roman emperors were proposed to represent this huge statue which is nearly three times life size measuring 5.11 meters tall. The first one is Emperor Heraclius who reigned from 610 to 641 CE; the second is Emperor Theodosius who reigned from 408 to 450 CE, and; Emperor Honorius who reigned from 393 to 523 CE. This colossal statue was discovered in 1232 during excavations in Ravenna.
Great Sphinx of Giza
This statue is probably the oldest existing statue in the world. Often times this architectural masterpiece is overshadowed by the popularity of Great Pyramid. The Great Sphinx of Giza "The Father of Fear" is a half-human, half-lion sphinx statue in Egypt. It stands on the Giza Plateau at the west bank of the Nile River near Cairo City, Egypt’s capital. This mammoth statue is 73.5 meters in length. Its width is 6 meters and is 20 meters in height. Built in the 3rd millennium BCE, it is the earliest known monumental sculpture.
Colossus of Rhodes
The Colossus of Rhodes is undeniably one of the most amazing creations of the Ancient World. It was a magnificent and huge statue of the Greek god Helios. This 30 meters tall monumental structure was erected on the Greek island of Rhodes by Chares between 292 and 280 BC. Regarded as one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, it was one of the tallest statues of the ancient world.
This monumental statue is one of the most recognizable and one of the tallest statues in the world. Known as Ushiku Daibutsu, it is located in Ushiku, Ibaraki Prefecture in Japan. This sculptural masterpiece that stands awesomely at 120 meters tall was completed in 1995. An elevator takes visitors up to 85m off the ground, where an observation floor is located. This distinct bronze and marble statue depicts a man in sober meditation battling with a powerful internal struggle. It is often used to represent philosophy.
Dallas Zoo is a unique zoo in Dallas, Texas in the United States. Home to 406 species and 1,800 animals, it is the largest zoological park in Texas. At the entrance of the zoo, a huge animal statue of giraffe was erected, that marks the location of the zoo.
